In addition to supporting our partners in Ukraine, Hearts for Ukraine has been supporting pastors in Kenya since 2021. Two pastors I know and trust are Pastor Elisha and Pastor Matthew. They both have churches in Kenya as well as successful ministries to children. I highly regard them as men of God who are doing great work caring for children and spreading the Gospel.
We recently set up the Kenya Feeding Program on their behalf to send each pastor up to $250 to help feed the children they care for. Each pastor has submitted photos of 25 children to us. We plan to ask donors to commit to $10 a month for 1 year. Our goal is when all 50 children (25 from each pastor) have been funded, Hearts for Ukraine will send monthly payments of $250 to each of their respective feeding programs.
Currently Pastor Elisha cares for 170 children and Pastor Matthew cares for 200 children. I’m told that about $5 per week can feed one child. The cost of feeding all these kids (most of them orphans) is actually thousands of dollars per month. But we have to start somewhere and we’re hoping that by May 2024 we can at least provide each pastor with $250. To be clear, they will be feeding not just the children for whom we have photos of, but taking care of all the children’s food and water needs as best they can. Our ultimate goal will be to get more photos of more children until we can fully fund their feeding programs.
